WHEN YOU PARTNER WITH THE IVY LEAGUE LANGUAGE SCHOOL
The Ivy League Language School (ILLS) works closely with superintendents, principals, administrators, and teachers to create a customized foreign language curriculum that directly supports your students’ needs. Our process starts with listening to you. We assess your goals and customize a foreign language program that is right for your goals and students. The ILLS is a full-service summer program that will be responsible for enrolling students, parent outreach, and teacher recruitment and placement.
1. Summer Pre-Planning
The ILLS works with our partners every step of the way. An effective summer program requires months of preparation, and the ILLS understand our partners sometimes have limited capacity to allocate time for summer planning during the school year. The ILLS coordinates with the school administration to conduct a thorough assessment to understand their priorities, needs, and core values. The ILLS then facilitate 2 to 3 days of meetings in identified school(s) to familiarize and assess students who will participate in our summer program. Based on our professional assessments, the ILLS devises a customized summer school plan to provide language lessons to intervene and accelerate students reading, writing, and speaking skills.
2. The Program and Student Assessments
It is important for our partners to see students’ reading, writing, and speaking progress during and post the ILLS summer school program. After each lesson, the ILLS instructors observe and note each student’s reading, writing, and speaking progress. The ILLS instructor rates each student on a scale (0 to 5) in 3 categories: a group assessment, one-on-one assessment, and written assessment. (0 being no response and 5 being excellent) This assessment is used to tailor future lesson plans for each student. Students must be competent on the lesson at-hand before introducing subsequent lessons. In addition to the ILLS instructor’s daily assessment, students conclude each week with short oral performances to measure progress and to display learner’s fluency and mastery of material covered that week. At the end of the summer program, the ILLS administrator provides principals, teachers, and parents a report highlighting students’ assessments as well as attendance rates.
3. Follow-Up and Year-Round Support
The ILLS always want our partners and students to connect technology and stay in communication with us. The ILLS provides year-round foreign language support to superintendents, principals, teachers, parents, and students who partnered or attended the ILLS summer program. The ILLS uses video and phone conferencing to connect and support our students year-round. The ILLS language call-in chat sessions are held Fridays 5pm to 7pm.
4. Leadership Development
The ILLS team of experienced educators provide professional development to teaching staff throughout the summer. Professional support sessions are geared toward improvement in instructional delivery and lesson planning. The ILLS Program Director and School Coordinators hold regular meetings with teachers throughout the program to give feedback and support.
